The Southern Republicans Association sponsored the eighth annual Southern Republican Policy Conference to study Republican domestic policies on education, health care, and other national issues. The Southern Republican Exchange is committed to bringing together southern Republican leaders to determine new alternatives and initiatives for government policy. Speakers discussed the current state of the Republican party, and stressed the importance of Republican state and national campaign victories in 1992. In his remarks, Governor Carroll Campbell discussed domestic and foreign policy issues including the new education initiatives introduced by the Bush administration, and necessary trade policies to reobtain American dominance in global economic affairs. Secretary Lamar Alexander also discussed the administration’s new education initiatives, stating that they constituted the first specific education initiatives in American history. close
