After an introduction by Ms. Pache, Mr. Spence talked about the National Funeral Directors Association, focusing on trends in the industry and a new enforceable professional code of conduct for members. The code of conduct and other changes were part of an effort to bolster consumer confidence in the funeral industry in the wake of a 2002 investigation at a crematorium in Noble, Georgia, which revealed hundreds of corpses scattered about the property. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Spence responded to questions from the audience. close
