Kevin Shelley gave his reaction to the federal appeals court decision allowing the October 7 California gubernatorial recall election to proceed. A judge had earlier ruled that the election must be postponed until all California counties were equipped with new electronic voting machines. Mr. Shelley praised the court’s decision, pointing out that the date of the election was set by California’s constitution, and that the election was technically already in progress since many absentee ballots had been mailed. After making a prepared statement, he responded to questions from reporters. close
