The Prince of Providence
Mike Stanton spoke about his book, The Prince of Providence: The True Story of Buddy Cianci, America’s Most Notorious Mayor, Some Wiseguys, and the Feds, published by Random House. The book tells the story of Buddy Cianci, former mayor of Providence, Rhode Island. Mr. Cianci was Providence’s first Italian-American mayor and the man largely responsible for Providence’s renaissance. He served as mayor until 1984, when he resigned after pleading guilty to felony assault, but was re-elected in 1990. The author told stories of Mr. Cianci’s connection to corrupt organizations, his dealings with Frank Sinatra, his friendship with Anthony Quinn, and his eventual prison sentence. After his presentation he answered audience members' questions. close
