Former police chief Moose talked about his memoir, Three Weeks in October: The Manhunt for the Serial Sniper, co-written with author Charles Fleming, and published by E.P. Dutton. For twenty-one days during October of 2002, many residents of Maryland and Virginia were too frightened to engage in such routine activities as pumping gas or waiting for the bus. The area was plagued by a pair of serial snipers, who seemed to choose their victims at random. Chief Moose headed the multi-agency law enforcement team that investigated the shootings and ultimately arrested the suspects. The book details this experience, and also follows Moose’s rise from young police officer to chief of the homicide unit in the Montgomery County, Maryland police department. After his presentation, he answered audience members' questions. close
