On Thursday, March 4, 2004, the Library of Congress unsealed the papers of Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun on the fifth anniversary of his death. The collection included 38 hours of videotaped oral history interviews conducted with Justice Blackmun in 1994 and 1995 by his former law clerk, Yale professor Harold Koh. The interviews were shot by a Federal Judicial Center videographer. Justice Blackmun was appointed by President Richard Nixon in 1970 and served until 1994, when Justice Stephen Breyer took his seat on the Court. Justice Blackmun died on March 4, 1999.
