CEO of the American Cancer Society, John Seffrin reported on the state of the fight against cancer. Among the issues he addressed were the long lag time between scientific discoveries and their medical application, the diversity of types of cancers, the growing global cancer rate even as it declines in the United States, the needless suffering from untreated illness, and the great number of cancer cases that could have been prevented or could have been alleviated by early detection. Following his remarks he responded to questions from members of the audience. close
