Sidney Shachnow talked about his memoir Hope and Honor, published by Forge Books. It began with his escape from a Nazi concentration camp in Lithuania during World War II at the age of ten. Maj. General Shachnow eventually emigrated to America and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the military for thirty two years, fought in the Vietnam War, and became a decorated Major General in charge of all U.S. Special Forces. Since his retirement in 1994 he consulted for the Pentagon on special operations and instructed at military institutions such as the U.S. Army Command General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
