John Hess talked about his book, “My Times: A Memoir of Dissent". The book provides an insider’s view of operations at the New York Times by a newspaperman who worked there for twenty-four years. According to the author, objective journalism is a myth that the newspaper is guilty of disseminating. He chronicles examples of news that was not covered, incorrectly reported, or ignored by a staff compelled to report only non-controversial news. Mr. Hess further asserts that the staff generally produces bland, superficial stories that are then "fixed” by an editor if necessary. He also discusses the newspaper’s founding families, the Ochs and the Sulzbergers. close
