Mr. Schlosser talked about his book Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market, published by Houghton Mifflin Co. The book reports on America’s underground economic activity, which, according to the author, constitutes around 10 percent of the nation’s economy. The black market in the United States "is where economic activities remain off the books, where they are unrecorded, unreported, and in violation of the law". The book focuses on three major black markets: marijuana, the most widely used illegal drug in America; migrant workers, many of them illegal immigrants; and pornography. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Schlosser responded to questions from the audience. close
