David Von Drehle and Daniel Okrent talked about historical events in New York City. Mr. Von Drehle is the author of Triangle: The Fire That Changed America, published by Atlantic Monthly Press. The book describes the 1911 fire at the Triangle shirtwaist factory in New York’s Greenwich Village. The fire killed 146 people, and popular revulsion at the catastrophe led to an unprecedented alliance between labor reformers and the pragmatic politicians of Tammany Hall. The alliance then passed a body of legislation designed to increase and protect the rights of workers. Mr. Okrent is the author of Great Fortune: The Epic of Rockefeller Center, published by Viking Press. The book chronicles the building of Rockefeller Center. Following their presentations, the authors responded to questions from the audience. close
