Mr. Korb, former Assistant Secretary of Defense, spoke during the Human Rights Campaign Fund’s annual conference on discrimination against homosexuals in the Department of Defense’s military policies. The Fund presented a graphic showing the results of a recent poll of Americans concerning homosexuals in the military, which showed that 81 percent of Americans feel homosexuals should not be discharged from the military on the basis of their sexual preference. Mr. Korb criticized the Department of Defense for failing to realize the potential contributions of gays and lesbians and instead focusing on their potential disadvantages. He compared the current controversy concerning homosexuals in the military to the controversy created when the military changed its policy on allowing women into the ranks. close
