Author Kenneth Walsh was interviewed about his book, Air Force One: A History of the Presidents and Their Planes, published by Hyperion. In the book, the author examines each president’s experiences and policies regarding Air Force One. He also discusses the aircraft that have had the Air Force One callsign, from the prop-driven Pan Am airplane of Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the jumbo 747 used by the current president. The author interviewed Presidents Ford, Carter, Clinton, and George H.W. Bush in order to gain insight into the atmosphere on the plane during their respective terms. Mr. Walsh, who as senior White House correspondent for U.S. News and World Report made hundreds of trips on the plane himself, also interviewed other travelers and crew members for the book. close
