The National Education Goals Panel held a hearing to review its nearly-completed series of regional hearings on education and to review several proposed methods of obtaining national math and science standards for primary and secondary students. National math and science were one of the panel’s six goals for American education, and were also included in President Bush’s Education:2000 education proposals introduced in April 1991. Witnesses testified on the importance of setting standards for mathematics and science in the nation’s schools, and on the proposed methods for doing so. Mr. Romberg discussed mathematics and science education in other countries and the changes occurring in the teaching curricula of math and science around the world. close
