President Bush and Queen Elizabeth II exchanged toasts at a state dinner in the White House in honor of the queen’s visit to the United States. President Bush spoke on the close coordination between the U.S. and Great Britain during the Persian Gulf war, and on the legacy of human rights and the rule of law bequeathed upon the U.S. by Great Britain. The Queen spoke on her previous visits to the White House, and the history of diplomatic relations between Great Britain and the United States. She called for both countries to continue their combined commitment supporting democracy and human rights around the world. close
