NASA officials talked about the exploration of Mars. They gave a brief overview of past missions to Mars and the reasons for exploring the planet, but focused on the Spirit rover mission, which was scheduled to land on Mars the next day. In addition to sending pictures back to Earth, the rover would analyze Martian rocks and dirt using an array of geological and scientific instruments. Slides were shown during the presentation. Following prepared remarks, officials responded to questions from reporters. close
