Mr. Hampikian talked about his first book Exit to Freedom: The Only Firsthand Account of a Wrongful Conviction Overturned by DNA Evidence, published by University of Georgia Press. Mr. Hampikian served more than fifteen years behind bars, convicted of a rape for which he was later exonerated. During his sentence, Mr. Hampikian’s case was taken up by the Innocence Project, a nonprofit legal clinic for using DNA evidence, a fairly new concept in the legal community, to investigate and reverse convictions. The book tells the story of Mr. Hampikian’s efforts to have his case re-opened. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
