Panelists discussed immigration, displacement, and the difficulty of adjusting to a new culture. Mr. Dickstein moderated the panel, which was entitled "The Mythology of the American Dream: Contending with Psychic and Cultural Dislocation". The panelists talked about their books, their thoughts, and their own experiences. Following prepared remarks, they responded to questions from the audience.

Mr. Dickstein is the author of several books, including Leopards in the Temple and Gates of Eden, both published by Harvard University Press. Mr. Diaz is the author of Drown, published by Riverhead Books. Ms. Nunez is the author of a number of books, including Bruised Hibiscus, Grace, and Discretion, all published by One World/Ballantine. Ms. Hoffman is the author of several books, including Lost in Translation: A Life in a New Language, published by Penguin USA; and After Such Knowledge: Where Memory of the Holocaust Ends and History Begins, published by PublicAffairs.
