Lupe Valdez spoke about her life and career in law enforcement as part of the Dallas Morning News Distinguished Women Leaders Lecture Series. On November 2, 2004 she was elected to be the first female sheriff of Dallas County, Texas. She will take office on January 1, 2005. She was elected as a Democratic candidate in a state that leaned heavily Republican in the election. close
