Professor Hanson talked about his career and his writings and responded to audience telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. He is the author of numerous books, including The Western Way of War; The Soul of Battle; Fields Without Dreams: Defending the Agrarian Idea; Who Killed Homer? The Decline of Classical Education and the Recovery of Greek Wisdom; Carnage and Culture: Landmark Battles in the Rise of Western Power; Mexifornia: A State of Becoming; and Between War and Peace: Lessons from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Victor Davis Hanson teaches classics at California State University, Fresno, and is also the coordinator of the University’s Classical Studies Program. He is a senior fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and writes a biweekly column about contemporary culture and military history for National Review Online. He lives on a 40-acre tree and vine farm near Selma, California, that has belonged to his family since the 1870s. close
