The Cato Institute held a “Capitol Hill Briefing” in the Rayburn House Office Building. Douglas Holtz-Eakin talked about the recently-released fiscal year 2005 federal budget and its baseline projections over ten years. He spoke of the Congressional Budget Office that was just beginning its analysis of President George W. Bush’s budget proposal. Topics included the budget deficit, tax rates, and economic growth. Chris Edwards criticized the president’s budget proposal, including the deficit amount, tax cuts, and being unprepared for increased spending for Medicare and Medicaid.
