State Department officials testified about U.S. policy toward Libya. In December 2003 President Bush announced that Libya had committed to open its weapons program to international inspectors and to dismantle its weapons of mass destruction. Topics included Libya’s settlement of Pan Am 103 bombing claims, President Bush’s announcement today that several sanctions will be lifted, setting benchmarks for further lifting of sanctions, and the dismantling and removal of nuclear weapons and parts of missiles by Assistant Secretary DeSutter and others. close
