Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, spoke at the Economic Club of New York. He talked about U.S. monetary policy and foreign exchange rates. He encouraged fiscal restraint to reduce the federal budget deficit, and strongly condemned protectionism as harmful to the nation’s long-term economic health. He also discussed foreign exchange markets, the international financial system, domestic currency bias, and capital controls. close
