Two hours from the first interview on September 9, 1994 is shown from “A Portion of His Oral History conducted with Justice Blackmun by Yale Professor Harold Koh.” In this segment Justice Blackmun reminisces about different objects in his office. Then, on December 13, 1995 he sat for an interview in the Supreme Court library and talked about his background and early years as a lawyer.

The 38-hour oral history was conducted in 1994 and 1995 with Harold Hongju Koh, a former law clerk of Justice Blackmun’s who will become Dean of Yale’s Law School in July 2004.

March 4 marked the fifth anniversary of the death of former Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun. He ordered that his papers be released by the Library of Congress on that day, including 38 hours of oral history interviews conducted on videotape. close
