Dr. McClellan testified about prescription drug importation from both economic and health and safety perspectives. He talked about a task force being formed to study assuring the safety of imports through the Federal Drug Administration. He would not answer questions about his own specific recommendations for solving the drug pricing problem.

House Government Reform Committee members Reps. Burton and Sanders testified that Dr. McClellan refused many requests to testify before their committee about prescription drug imports. They claimed that Dr. McClellan was “on the side of the pharmaceutical industry.”

Dr. McClellan has been nominated by President Bush to head the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. close
