An Honest Writer: James T. Farrell Mr. Landers talked about his book, An Honest Writer: The Life and Times of James T. Farrell, published by Encounter Books. The book is a biography of the author of the Studs Lonigan trilogy. Mr. Landers examines the characters and events that shaped the life and literary works of James T. Farrell, the son of an Irish-American Teamster, who was raised by his grandparents on the South Side of Chicago. Farrell’s experiences directly influenced his work. He used family members, acquaintances, and friends as characters, which he employed to highlight the often tenuous situations of Irish-Americans in the early part of the twentieth century. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Landers responded to questions from the audience.
