In a news conference held at the National Press Club representatives of the newly-formed Coalition Against Higher Medicare Costs called on Congress to delay implementation of the new Medicare prescription drug benefit. They said that unpredictable increases in costs because of the added medical entitlement indicate that the legislation must be rewritten. They also talked about the Medicare trustees' report issued today that reported the hospital trust fund would be insolvent seven years earlier than previously predicted.
