Earlier that day, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow. Michael Newdow, an atheist, sought to have the words “under God” declared unconstitutional and removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. In a rare move, Newdow was granted permission to argue his own case before the court. Following oral arguments, interested parties spoke with reporters. close
