John Eidinow talked about his book, which he co-authored with Dave Edmonds, Bobby Fischer Goes to War: How the Soviets Lost the Most Extraordinary Chess Match of All Time, published by Ecco. It tells the story of the 1972 international chess match between American Bobby Fischer and Soviet Boris Spassky, which took more than two months to complete. Over that two-month period the match moved to front page news around the world, the contestants refused to continue at times, and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and the KGB got involved. The book explores the events leading up to and after the historic chess match. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
