Author Richard Sennett talked about his book, Respect in a World of Inequality, published by W.W. Norton and Company. In the book, the author combines topics from sociology, history, and personal experience in order to explore the challenges of fostering mutual respect in an unequal society. He draws on his childhood experiences in the Cabrini Green housing project in Chicago to reveal the tensions he observed between working-class whites and working-class blacks during integration. Mr. Sennett argues that, while people may be inherently unequal in some ways, society should seek to nurture all members and value them for their own abilities. close
