Mr. Timmerman talked about two of his books, The French Betrayal of America and Preachers of Hate: Islam and the War on America, both published by Crown Forum. In the first book, the author argues that the full extent of the relationship between French President Jacques Chirac and former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is largely unknown in the United States. He further asserts that, until January 20, 2003, Chirac privately led the Bush administration to believe that France would support the war in Iraq, but failed to honor this commitment when the U.S. brought its case to the United Nations. In Preachers of Hate, Mr. Timmerman discusses his experiences as a reporter in Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan. He claims that radical Muslims throughout the Middle East, who are strongly influenced by such works as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, seek the complete destruction of both Israel and the United States. Following prepared remarks, Mr. Timmerman responded to questions from the audience. close
