The Federal Election Commission conducted an open meeting on the regulation and restriction of “527” political action groups. The six member body heard suggestions and comments about these groups which are governed by section 527 of the tax code. These groups, which are not directly affiliated with candidates or political parties, are able to collect unlimited donations and are able to use their tax-exempt revenues to promote candidates and issues. close
