The Taxpayers Alliance Against the Bailout of Communism held a news conference to announce the beginning of a grass-roots lobbying effort against the extension of most favored nation trade status for China and the extension of economic aid to the Soviet Union. Members of the alliance desired the awarding of most favored nation status to be linked to democratic and economic reforms in the socialist countries. Mr. Cregan claimed China and the Soviet Union would use their most favored nation trade status to obtain hard currency, which would be channeled into their military-industrial complexes. close
