The guests talked about the Chinese government’s crackdown on democracy advocates in Tiananmen Square 15 years ago. They also discussed the current status of the Chinese democracy movement. The previous day was the anniversary of the crackdown. Thousands of protesters, many of them students, were killed, imprisoned, or exiled after tanks rolled into the square and adjacent areas. Mr. Wang, who participated via video link from New York City, was one of the democracy movement’s planners. He was imprisoned for four and a half years following the crackdown. The guests also responded to viewer telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail. close
