Mr. Powers talked about his book Blue Clay People: Seasons on Africa’s Fragile Edge, published by Bloomsbury USA. He recounted how in 1999, after he finished his Ph.D studies in international relations, he was sent to fight poverty and save the rainforest in Liberia. He explained how the two-year trip changed his life and how his experiences there made it difficult for him to leave. Following his discussion, Mr. Powers answered questions from members of the audience. close
