Former Senator Carnahan talked about her book, Don’t Let the Fire Go Out!, published by University of Missouri Press. Shortly before the 2000 election, her husband, Democratic Senate candidate Governor Mel Carnahan, was killed in a plane crash that also claimed the life of their son. When the governor won his Senate race posthumously, Mrs. Carnahan was appointed to the U.S. Senate and served from 2001-2003. After reading from her book, Mrs. Carnahan took questions from the audience. close
