Mr. Winchester participated in a three-hour discussion of his life and work. He spoke about his early career as a geologist and how he became a professional writer. Mr. Winchester is the author of many books, including The Meaning of Everything, Krakatoa, The Map That Changed the World, and The Professor and the Madman. He was a foreign correspondent for the London Guardian and the Sunday Times, and has been based in Belfast, New Delhi, New York, London, and Hong Kong. A video clip was shown of his home in Sandisfield, Massachusetts and of him working on a book about the San Francisco earthquake. During the interview he responded to viewer telephone calls and electronic mail. close
