Mr. McKean, Senator John Kerry’s chief of staff, talked about his book, Tommy the Cork: Washington’s Ultimate Insider from Roosevelt to Reagan, published by Steerforth. In the book, the author examines how Thomas Corcoran became the first powerful Washington lobbyist. Mr. Corcoran began his career as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. He later worked with Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the New Deal era, and became acquainted with such notable figures as Sam Rayburn, Joseph Kennedy, Evita Peron, Lyndon Johnson, and Ronald Reagan. Mr. Corcoran represented various interests in Washington for nearly forty years. close
