Readings on Free Expression PEN American Center presented a forum called “State of Emergency: Unconventional Readings” as part of their “Campaign for Core Freedoms.” Ffifteen authors read selections from such writers as John Stuart Mill, Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Jose Marti, Miguel de Cervantes, Nawal El Saadawi, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Zbigniew Herbert, Dalton Trumbo, and James Baldwin.

PEN is an association of poets, playwrights, essayists, editors, and novelists that was founded in 1921. close
