Author Courtney Angela Brkic talked about her book The Stone Fields: An Epitaph for the Living, published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. She related her experiences in Bosnia as a field archaeologist on a forensic team contracted by the United Nations. The author excavated graves and recovered remains of those who had been killed during the war between the Muslims, Serbs, Croats, Slovenians, and Bosnians. She spoke about her ancestors who lived in the former Yugoslavia, including her grandmother who was imprisoned during World War II. close
