The guests discussed the dominant issue before Congress, the Civil Rights Bill of 1991. The bill passed in the House of Representatives and will move on to consideration in the Senate. President Bush is against the bill written in the House on the basis that it will lead to quota hiring. The President is expected to veto the bill when it becomes before him. The guests also discussed the announcement by Attorney General Richard Thornburgh of his intention to run for the Senate seat vacated by the death of Senator John Heinz. Sen. Mitchell expressed criticism for Attorney General Thornburgh’s request to remain on the Cabinet until after July, 1991. close
