Mr. Caperton spoke to reporters about the SAT, emphasizing improved performance among Hispanic students in recent years, but warned that the performance gap between white students and minorities is widening.

Mr. Camara discussed the validity of the SAT and its ability to effectively predict college success.

Ms. Anagnostopoulos spoke about changes planned for next year’s SAT and the ways the new SAT will avoid test bias against female and minority students. She placed the changes in the context of the “continued evolution of the test in response to what goes on in high school classroom.”

Mr. O’Reilly discussed the details of the new SAT, explaining the number and type of questions.

Ms. Schmidt spoke about the writing section of the new test, and explained plans for releasing statistical information about the new test.
