Mr. Wirajuda spoke about reform efforts in Indonesia. He spoke about efforts to combat terrorism and inflationary pressures, as well as efforts to promote democracy and regional autonomy. He emphasized the need for a “democratic environment at the global level,” but noted that such an “environment can not be created by unilateral actions, no matter how mighty or well-intended.” He called on the United Nations' “strongest and most influential members” to support multilateral efforts to promote peace and democracy. He called for limited reforms of the U.N. charter. close
