Columnist Eric Alterman spoke to an audience at the Aspen Institute about his book When Presidents Lie: A History of Official Deception and Its Consequences. He talked about the implications of presidential statements made by Kennedy on the Cuban Missile Crisis, Johnson on the Gulf of Tonkin, Reagan on Iran-Contra, and George W. Bush on the Iraq War.
