Author Farai Chideya talked about her book, Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters, published by Soft Skull Press. She urged people to not only concern themselves with the 2004 presidential election but the elections of many years to come. Ms. Chideya argued that the entire democratic system was flawed and needed to be reworked to reflect the times. She described the missing voters as the youth of America as well as individuals that don’t belong to either the Republican or Democratic party. Author Miles Marshall Lewis joined the discussions and spoke about voting and the hip-hop culture. Mr. Lewis, author of Scars of the Soul Are Why Kids Wear Bandages When They Don’t Have Bruises, published by Akashic Books, discussed political awareness in the hip-hop community and the significance of this culture concerning the upcoming election. Both authors answered questions from members of the audience. close
