Mr. Farrell talked about his book Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap -- and What Women Can Do About It, published by American Management Association. In his book, he argued that women earned less than men on average not because they are discriminated against, but because they had made lifestyle choices that affected their ability to earn. Although discrimination sometimes played a part, both men and women unconsciously made trade-offs that affected how much they earn. He lists workplace choices that affect incomes and research-supported ways for women to earn higher pay. Mr. Farrell says that a man and woman who are the same age usually have very different goals in terms of their career and that choices such as child rearing, often affect how much they can potentially earn. Mr. Farrell also pointed to the fact that men engage in occupations (hazardous assignments, military, jobs involving frequent moves) in which women did not traditionally take part. Followin close
