Mr. DiRita spoke to reporters about recent reports that a large cache of high explosives in Iraq has disappeared. Weapons inspectors cataloged several hundred tons of explosives in the Al-Qaqaa ammunition storage facility before the U.S. invasion, and recent news reports have asserted that the stockpile was left unguarded after U.S. troops entered the country. Major Pearson spoke about his unit’s experience at the ammunition dump and described the process used to destroy captured ammunition stockpiles. Following their remarks, Mr. DiRita and Major Pearson responded to questions from members of the press. close
