C-SPAN and Congressional Hearings Panelists described C-SPAN Television Network’s influence on congressional hearings and the nation’s political consciousness through the regular televising of many of the hearings. They examined what happens when a hearing instantly becomes part of the national discourse, shaping the next day’s proceedings, and how the recorded C-SPAN cablecasts serve as an easily accessible historical record of testimony, raising the bar on witness accountability. Clips were shown of some historical moments in congressional hearings.

This was the second session of “C-SPAN: Adventures in Democracy,” a four-part series celebrating and analyzing the impact of C-SPAN’s twenty-five years on cable television. close
