President Bush announced the nomination of Condoleezza Rice to succeed outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell. The President spoke about Secretary Powell’s tenure in office and thanked him “for his lifetime of service.” He also spoke about Dr. Rice’s qualifications and the challenges confronting her as she takes the helm at the Department of State. Dr. Rice thanked the President and Secretary Powell and noted that she looks forward to the challenges of her new position. close
