Foundation representatives presented former Senator Bob Dole with the American Patriot Award from the National Defense University for “being an exceptional American who has demonstrated a profound and abiding love of country and whose inspirational leadership and selfless dedication symbolize the nation’s ideals, values and democratic principles.”

A video about the National Defense University and a video biography of Dole’s life were shown. Secretary Ridge and other speakers praised Senator Dole’s life, career and patriotism. Senator Dole spoke about his recovery from wounds suffered in World War II, saying that he is writing a book about those five years of his life. He also paid tribute to all patriots, veterans, and members of the armed services. close
